Will Rory McIlroy win a major title in 2017?

oddsWithout a doubt, Rory McIlroy is one of the best golfers on the planet and the Northern Irishman will be quietly confident of his chances in 2017 after a relatively consistent effort this year.

Although he was unable to win one of the four major titles, McIlroy was there or thereabouts in most of the big events and showed plenty of quality during his five Ryder Cup matches.

Unfortunately, Europe were still well beaten by the United States of America but McIlroy will take plenty of confidence from his own game after earning three points; with only Thomas Pieters scoring more for the European side.

McIlroy may have slipped down to third in the world rankings but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the 27-year-old climb back above his close rivals at the top of the leaderboard.

Since winning back-to-back major titles at the end of the 2014 campaign, McIlroy has failed to finish in the top three – but he has finished in the final 10 in four of the seven events. If truth be told, the Masters is perhaps most suited to his style of play but it is the only major event that he is yet to win.

On his day, McIlroy is capable of taking on Augusta National and emerging victorious; although it is widely regarded as one of the most unforgiving courses in golf.

At the time of writing, McIlroy is priced at 8/1 with Betway to win the Masters and you can find a long list of betting options available on their website.

Last year, McIlroy’s poor start cost him dearly as he was forced to take unnecessary risks in a bid to catch up but still managed to finish in the top 10; an achievement that shows just how talented he is when he gets going. If the 27-year-old can start well in the 2017 event, he could be the man to beat.

McIlroy will have one eye on the world rankings but he shouldn’t get too concerned just yet – a few impressive results in major events and he will be back at the summit of the sport.

In April, McIlroy will head to Augusta National in a bid to win a maiden Masters crown and it would take a brave man to back against him after his impressive Ryder Cup. And from there, who knows; a few more major titles could follow…
