The Garmin Approach G5, which originally retailed for $499.99, now is on sale at GolfSmith for $189.98.
This is the GPS that’s in my bag and I heartily endorse it. At this price, I think it’s a steal.
The touchscreen unit has data for some 20,000 courses preloaded. It works straight out-of-the-box, and no annual subscription is required. I find it very intuitive to use and it has all the features I’m likely to use.
One thing I especially like about the unit is that it runs on standard AA batteries. I consider this a plus because with my rechargeable NEO unit, I always seemed to forget to recharge and would arrive at the course with a dead GPS. With this unit, I just keep a couple of fresh batteries in the bag and a small pack in the tunk of the car.
