A Late March Snowstorm
After weeks of pasable golf weather, southeast Michigan was hit was a snowstorm today.
Watching the blizzard from my classroom window (which overlooks a courtyard), the scene looked positively apocalyptic. However, when the last bell rang and I emerged from the building it turned out to be relatively light. The streets were clear, and the grass had no more than an inch or so.
With temperatures rising into the forties over the next couple of days, the accumulation should not last long.
Late March snowstorms are not unusual here in the Mitten State. On this day in 2010, SE Michigan was hit with eight inches of the white stuff. In 1978, a St. Patrick’s Day snowstorm dumped 19 inches.
Two years ago, we got four inches on April 18.
A couple of decades ago, when I coached high school girls’ golf, we had a snowstorm in May during state finals. It took all my powers of persuasion to convince them to get off the bus to play.
Monday, the mercury should return to the mid-fifties, and I hope to get in a round at Washtenaw Golf Club then.
