CANADIAN LAKES – Michigan State golfer, Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Year and two-time defending Michigan Women’s Amateur Champion Allyson Geer of Brighton has accepted a sponsor’s exemption for the second consecutive year to play in the Tullymore Classic at Tullymore Golf Resort on Fourth of July Weekend.

“It’s Go Green, Go White at the Tullymore Classic with Michigan’s most talented young golfer,” Gary Lewandowski, Tullymore Golf Resort head golf professional and tournament director said.

“Allyson played so great here last year, and she has been the best amateur golfer in Michigan the last two years, so we’re excited to invite her back to play again. It will be fun for the golf fans of the Tullymore Classic to watch her compete once again with the pros.”

Geer, 18 and a Brighton resident, made the cut and finished in a tie for 50th in the field of 144 golfers at last year’s Classic, and this weekend is playing on a sponsor’s exemption in the Meijer LPGA Classic in Grand Rapids.

She finished fourth in the Big Ten Conference Tournament, and was second on the team in scoring average after joining the team for just the spring as an early freshman enrollee in January.

“I’m honored to be invited to play again,” she said. “It was such a great experience last year. I love the golf course and the resort, and playing with the great professionals in front of crowds like that was tremendous experience for me. My long-range goal is to be a professional golfer. This will be another great learning experience.”

The third Tullymore Classic is set for June 28 through July 2 with the Canadian Lakes Property Owners Corporation and SpartanNash, on behalf of its Our Family® and Spartan® exclusive private brands, teaming up with Tullymore Golf Resort to present two Tullymore Classic Pro-Ams on Wednesday, June 28, and Thursday, June 29, before the field of tour players and those with exemptions (144 golfers) take over for three days.

The touring players on the “Road to the LPGA” will compete over 54-holes for a $100,000 purse. Colombian Paola Moreno shot a final-round 6-under 66 capped by a 20-foot birdie putt at No. 18 to win last year’s Tullymore Classic. Moreno has been back and forth between the LPGA Tour and the Symetra Tour in recent years and is among the top money winners so far this season.

One sponsor’s exemption remains and Tullymore Golf Resort will announce the player soon.
