Apple Mountain GC To Host 10th GAM Super Senior Championship

Apple Mountain Golf Club Hosting 10th GAM Super Senior Championship

FREELAND – Apple Mountain Golf Club, a host of several GAM tournaments in recent years, will welcome some of them back when the 10th GAM Super Senior Championship is hosted by the popular course Monday and Tuesday, July 15-16.

A field of 80 GAM golfers ages 65-and-over will compete in the 36-hole stroke play championship, which crowns an overall Super Senior champion and presents a Legends Division for golfers ages 70-and-over. In addition, a Grand Legend award is presented to the player over age 75 with the lowest score.

Apple Mountain’s course, which opened in 1998, was designed by John Sandford of Florida-based Sanford Ferris Design and in 2018 drainage and sand improvements were made to greenside bunkers.

Sanford created a championship course with four sets of tee boxes on each hole and generous fairways. Water and elevation changes are part of the challenge on a scenic course that can be played as long as 6,900 yards.

The full-service public/resort facility has built a reputation for great course conditions under superintendent Chris Ballosh. Chad Maxim is the PGA head golf professional. Learn more at applemountain.com

Last year at Bloomfield Hills Country Club, Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member John Morgan won yet another title in his storied career. Gary Quitiquit of Highland topped the Legends Division.

Morgan and Quitiquit are returning to defend their titles in a field that once again includes most of the top senior players in the state and Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members Morgan, Randy Lewis, Terry Moore, Greg Reynolds and Bill Zylstra.

Several past champions are in the field, including Moore, the 2015 winner, 2018 and 2019 winner Ian Harris of Bloomfield Hills, 2020 winner Rick Herpich of Orchard Lake and 2021 champion Ray Emsley of Davisburg.
