Are There Songs About Golf?

image

In a recent conversation, the question came up as to whether there are any songs about golf. I know that there are several humorous golf cds out there, but are there any legitimate tunes by real artists?

I can’t think of any. Leave a comment if you know of one.

  1. It falls under “funny” songs, there is one called “Big Nellie May” by Alex Beaton, and it is available on iTunes.  Alex is a headline scottish singer for the festivals around the country.  Alex was on a scramble team with me last April in Arkasas.  He was our “A” player, probably around a 8-10 handicap.  My dad & uncle were the C & D players.  Anytime it gets to the point where I am the B player, that’s not good.

  3. In 1957 Bing Crosby recorded a song about golf called “Straight down the middle”. It was written for Bing by Cahn and Van Heusen. Bing recorded the song Dec. 31, 1957, and would sing it at his yearly clambake at Pebble Beach.

The song you’re thinking of is Donald the Dub by Frank Crumit.

It uses the same tune that was used as the Song about the Sun by They Might Be Giants.
