The well-known sports bar and restaurant chain Hooters has long been paired with one of professional golf’s most recognizable players in John Daly. And now, the restaurant has announced the pairing of Daly and his son, John Daly II, a golfer hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps as he’s currently playing at the University of Arkansas.
Daly senior and junior will advocate for Hooters through varied forms of marketing, such as social media and alternative digital strategies.
John Daly is a legend in the golfing world and became synonymous with his driving ability from his past successes on the PGA Tour. And since Daly stepped back from competition, he became known for parking his RV outside of Hooters each year across the road from The Masters’ tournament. Every April, Daly’s trip to Augusta has become a staple event for Masters week, and now the sports bar franchise has introduced his son into the mix.
Daly and his son are used to making headlines ever since the 2021 PNC Challenge. The PNC golfing event presents a father/son competition, and the Dalys – shooting 27-under par on 36 holes – won the event and set a new record – outperforming Tiger Woods and his son Charlie Woods.
Daly II joined the Arkansas golf team in November 2020 after putting his signature to a letter of intent. He also collected the 2020 Honorable Mention Rolex Junior All-American and a Second Team Rolex Junior All-American in 2021.
“I am proud to announce my commitment to play D1 golf at the University of Arkansas,” Daly II wrote on arrival to the Razorbacks. “I want to thank my parents for their endless support and all of my friends for being there for me when I needed them. I also want to thank my coaches Louys Moroney and Nicky Duff for helping me with every part of my game over the last five years.”
His father, John Daly, became a five-time PGA Tour winner after turning pro in 1987, two of which involved major championships. Rookie of the Year winner in 91′ and Comeback Player of the Years in 2004, Daly won the PGA Championship in 91′ and the Open Championship in 95′.
Last Tuesday, the father and son duo signed an agreement with Hooters with a NIL (name, image, likeness) contract.
“Hooters is thrilled to make our long-standing relationship with John official and enter an exciting new venture with Little John as our first NIL ambassador,” Bruce Skala commented, the vice president of marketing for Hooters in America.
“John’s larger-than-life personality makes him an ideal representative of Hooters’ fun-loving spirit, while Little John will promote our brand to the next generation as one of the next big names in golf. We are ecstatic to have the Dalys, fantastic golfers and great personalities, onboard as spokespeople for Hooters, the definitive 19h hole.”
Arkansas Razorbacks
Daly II is still a freshman with Arkansas University and has just one tournament under his belt, but there’s no denying the son of John Daly has a high ceiling and some big shoes to fill.
The Razorbacks recently finished 10th at the SEC Championships, and BetMGM Arkansas odds did anticipate a top-eight finish with advancement to the finals following last year’s success. However, ranked in 10th, the Razorbacks just missed the cut and will now turn their attention to the NCAA postseason.
I wouldn’t oppose wagering golf bets on the Razorbacks when Daly II is competing. Following a questionable debut last October, he overcame the jitters in a big way and scored a bogey, seven birdies, and just two bogeys to shoot a four-under 68.
Due to Arkansas fielding one of the best golf teams in the country, Daly II will need to fight for his position on the starting lineup, but it’s clear that the apple did fall far from the tree. And if you’re looking for a chance to cash in on the father/son duo, keep your eyes peeled to see if the Dalys return to defend their PNC Championship – as I don’t believe there’s a more excellent family golfing talent.
