    A look back at the 2011 AT&T National
    Nick Watney tied the tournament low round with a 62 (Aronimink) on Saturday that included two bogeys. He played the weekend at Aronimink Golf Club in 12-under, going the final 27 holes without a bogey. Watney closed with a 4-under 66 for a two-shot victory over the 2011 THE PLAYERS Champion, K.J. Choi (67), to win for he second time in 2011. The win also propelled Watney to the top of the money list as well as the FedEx Cup standings.

  • The defending champion has two top-10 finishes in 2012, the World Golf Championship-Accenture Match Play (T9) and most recently at the Wells Fargo Championship (8).

    Young Talent

    Jim Furyk

  • Making first start since heartbreaking U.S. Open performance where he held a share of the 36-and 54-hole leads before finishing T4. Furyk had an impressive run from 2007-2009 while
    Congressional CC hosted the AT&T National, that included a T3 (2008), T7 (2009) and a T3 (2007).

  • In 2011, Furyk missed the cut at the U.S. Open which was held at Congressional CC shooting 74, 75.

    Dustin Johnson

  • With his win at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in his second event back from a back injury that sidelined him since early March, Johnson became the first player since Tiger Woods to win a PGA
    TOUR each of his first five years out of college. Johnson leads all players under the age of 30 with six wins, the first player since Adam Scott (2008) to win six times before the age of 30.

    Hunter Mahan

  • With wins at the World Golf Championship-Accenture Match Play and Shell Houston Open, Mahan sits in the No. 2 spot on both the FedEx Cup standings. Finished second in this event at
    Congressional CC in 2009 to Tiger Woods with a blistering final-round 62.

    Davis Love III

  • The 2012 Ryder Cup Captain had his best finish of 2012 with a T3 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
  • Love III has 20 PGA TOUR wins including the 1997 PGA Championship. Is a two-time winner of THE PLAYERS Championship and has played on six Ryder Cup teams as well as six Presidents Cup teams.

    Jordan Spieth

  • Part of the 2011-12 NCAA Champion University of Texas Longhorn squad, Spieth is making his fourth start on the PGA TOUR in 2012. In his most recent start at the 2012 U.S. Open, Spieth finished T21 to take home low amateur honors.

    Tiger Woods

  • Past AT&T National winner Jack Nicklaus’ record for most PGA TOUR career victories (73) with a come-from behind win at Nicklaus’ event, the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance.

    Billy Hurley III

  • The PGA TOUR rookie and Annapolis resident attended the U.S. Naval Academy and served as an officer in the United States Navy after graduation (2004-09). Hurley III was also a lieutenant aboard a U.S. Navy destroyer for part of 2010 in the Persian Gulf, helping protect Iraqi oil platforms.

    Steve Marino

  • The AT&T National will be his fourth event back from a knee injury that caused him to miss four months. Marino played collegiately at the University of Virginia, where he was named All-ACC as
    a senior.

    Congressional Country Club (Blue Course) Notes

  • The AT&T National returns to Congressional Country Club (Blue Course) after a two-year hiatus due to Congressional hosting the 2011 U.S. Open.
  • The Blue Course will be set up with the same par and yardage (36-35—71/7,569 yards) from the 2011 U.S. Open. The sixth hole played as a par-4 measuring 515 yards back 2007-09, and for the 2011 U.S. Open, the hole was lengthened to 555 yards and plays as a par-5.
  • As host of the 2011 U.S. Open, Congressional CC ranked the 6th toughest course on the PGA TOUR with a scoring average of 72.99, almost two strokes over par.
  • In 2011 the Par-4 11th was ranked the seventh toughest hole with a scoring average of 4.45 and the Par-4 18th was ranked 10th with a scoring average of 4.41 making the back nine a formidable challenge for the field.
  • In 2009, Congressional CC was the 10th toughest course on TOUR with a stroke average of 70.91, almost a full stroke over par
    Miscellaneous notes from AT&T National

  • Zachary Lederer and his family will attend the AT&T National on Thursday, June 29. Lederer originally had a brain tumor at the age of 11 and defied the odds to have a normal childhood. He
    is a student at the University of Maryland and is also team manager of the men’s basketball team. Earlier this year the tumor returned and Lederer is currently going through chemotherapy. A picture posted on Facebook of Lederer in a hospital bed flexing after surgery is now known as “Zaching” and has inspired many around the world and was even produced in a special segment on ESPN a few months ago.

  • Erik Compton, a two-time heart transplant recipient, has teamed up with Donate Life America ona new initiative called “Play Through with Erik Compton” to help grow public awareness of organ donation in hopes that more Americans will consider becoming organ donors. Compton will join Washington Hospital Center, Medstar Heart Institute and the Washington Regional
    Transplant Consortium at the Washington Hospital Center (WHC) Courtyard on Wednesday, June 26th to try and educate people on this important topic.

  • The AT&T National benefits the college-access programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation and local youth organizations. Since 2007 the AT&T National has invested almost $14 million in this region through 125 grants, our two Tiger Woods Learning Center campuses and 25 Earl Woods Scholars.
