August 25 Is National Whiskey Sour Day
I don’t know who decides these things, but August 25 is National Whiskey Sour Day.
A Whiskey Sour is one of GolfBlogger’s favorite cocktails. That said, a Whiskey Sour is just one of a larger set of cocktails known generally as “sours.”
A sour is a simple, but quite versatile recipe.
Bon Appetit has a recipe for making the perfect sours for your cocktails:
Sour Formula: 2 ounces liquor + 3/4 ounce sour + 3/4 ounce sweet
The “sweet” could be a simple syrup. I make mine by heating a cup of sugar in a cup of water. The “sweet” also could be honey, or something like a maraschino liqueur, triple sec or other sweet liquid.
Given that basic recipe, a whiskey sour is whiskey, a simple syrup and lemon juice with an orange wheel and maraschino cherry for garnish.
Use fresh squeezed lemon juice.
Similarly, a margarita is Tequila, plus a sour made with lime juice. A mojito is rum, a lime-based sour and mint. A Gold Rush is a sour with honey for the sweet.
