Autumn Golf In Michigan

It has been a magnificent Autumn here in Michigan. The weather has been warm for October. I have played in shorts in 60 degree weather more often than not. When the sun is out — as it was on Tuesday — even fifty degree weather calls for shorts. Other signs of fall are everywhere, though. The trees are turning, squirrels are frantically getting fat, frost delays are pushing tee times back and days are much shorter.

I’ve been spending most of my golf hours at Washtenaw Golf Club — my home course — and thoroughly enjoying every minute of the cooler air and fall colors. Washtenaw does a great job of keeping the leaves out of the way, so

I’ve got an idea that when I finally retire from teaching, I’m going to spend a fall chasing the colors from the Upper Peninsula to South Eastern Michigan. I’ll start with rounds of golf near Marquette in September, then slowly move south, crisscrossing through Petosky, Harbor Springs, Boyne City, Gaylord, Grayling, Houghton, West Branch, Ludington, Midland, then gradually down to my usual stomping grounds in southern Michigan. It’ll be an epic trip.

In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the colors at Washtenaw. A gallery of photos from a recent round at Washtenaw is below.:
