Back Home Again

Back Home Again

Hey, it's good to be back home again
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long-lost friend
Yes, and hey, it's good to be back home again

- Back Home Again, by John Denver

As much as I am dedicated to playing as many different Michigan golf courses has humanly possible, I am always happy to return “home” to Washtenaw Golf Club.

I have in recent weeks played several new courses, and at two old favorites. The new courses were the Cardinal (an exceptional new high end course in Plymouth, which I have played three times thus far), Cedar Creek, Maple Grove, Rogers City Country Club and Rippling Rapids. The two old favorites were Indian River Golf Club and Antrim Dells. Indian River is probably my second favorite course.

But for all of that, like John Denver heading back to the farm after a tour, it’s good to be back home again.

There was a time when I thought playing the same course over and again would get boring. In practice, I have found that it never does. It helps that Washtenaw Golf Club is a wonderfully evolved classic course (the club is 125 years old this year) and that I love classic golf course designs.

Do you have a home course? What is it, and what do you love about it?
