I have wanted a set of Ben Hogan irons since I started playing golf. I have always considered them beautiful, but a single digit players club, and I’ve never been a single digit player. At one point, I came very close to purchasing a set of Ben Hogan Apex Edge irons.
Then the Ben Hogan line essentially disappeared.
The new Ben Hogan PTx Irons look the the irons I always wanted but couldn’t play. They’re a game improvement iron with a forged 1025 body and a “co-forged” titanium core at the center. The lower lofts feature a progressive hollow construction for higher ball flights.
Interestingly, the clubs don’t come sorted by numbers — as in 4, 5, 6, etc. — but in degrees. There are 28 different lofts set in four different configurations for precise fitting:
Low Launch Loft Profile: 20/24/28/32/36/40/44
Mid-Low Launch Loft Profile: 21/25/29/33/37/41/45
Mid-High Launch Loft Profile: 22/26/30/34/38/42/46
High Launch Loft Profile: 23/27/31/35/39/43/47
I lust after these clubs.
