Betting Odds For The US Open For May 18 2009

The early odds for the 2009 US Open at Bethpage Black has—surprise!—Tiger Woods as a solid favorite. Given his tendency to win at the same courses over and again, that’s only to be expected. Tiger is in at 9/4. He’s followed by a list of the usual suspects: Phil Mickelson at 8/1, Padraig Harrington at 16/1, Geoff Ogilvy at 18/1, and Jim Furyk at 22/1. Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson, all at 28/1 come next, followed by Paul Casey, Anthony Kim, Rory Mcilroy and Sean O’Hair at 33/1.

I’m surprised that there’s not more action on Zach Johnson, given his two victories and lead in the FedEx Cup standings. And it may be that the BoDogLife Odds are European, but there seems to be an awful lot of play on non-American players. Finally, how in heavens name does Ernie Els find himself at 40/1?

For those not in the know, odds are read by looking at the second number first. So, a bet of 4 on Tiger pays 9.
