Black Forest, in Gaylord, Michigan is an early Tom Doak design. Doak, known for his minimalism, is also the creator of such lauded courses as Pacific Dunes in Oregon, Ballyneal in Colorado, Barnbougle Dunes in Tasmania and Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand. It is unlikely that I will ever get to play any of those, so I’ll just have to be satisfied with Black Forest.
