Bloomfield Hills Country Club Not A Ross Course; May Be Even More Historically Important

The exclusive Bloomfield Hills Country Club, which has always been thought to be a Donald Ross design, apparently isn’t.

A Wall Street Journal article reports that recently unearthed minutes of club meetings from the 1910s prove conclusively that the Bloomfield Hills Country Club was designed by Harry Colt. That’s still not a bad pedigree. After all, Links magazine recently ranked him the greatest golf architect of all time, ahead of such legends as Alister MacKenzie, Donald Ross and A.W. Tillinghast. Further, its Colt provenance makes it even more valuable: whereas there are dozens of Donald Ross courses still around, this is the only intact Colt course in the United States.
