Boyne Highlands “The Heather” Celebrates It’s 50th

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to play Boyne Highlands “The Heather,” a terrific Robert Trent Jones course that this year celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The Heather is classic “Up North” Michigan golf, with wide, tree lined fairways and interesting elevation changes. On the best of the holes, you feel as though you and your group are the only people on the course.

The Heather is also classic Robert Trent Jones: brawny, requiring big shots off the tee, and high, arcing shots into the greens. In playing the course, I was constantly reminded of Robert Trent Jones’ dictum: Difficult Par, Easy Bogey.

I’ll have a full review shortly.
