Boyne’s Heather To Host Epson Tour Tournament In 2025

Boyne Golf’s Championship Heather Course To Host Epson Tour Tournament in 2025

The Epson Tour is coming to Boyne’s Heather course June 9 – 15, 2025.

The Heather, which the GolfBlogger thinks should be in every conversation about the best courses in Michigan has hosted Michigan Amateurs, AJGA Championships, the Michigan State Pro-Am, and The Celebrity Tour. The Robert Trent Jones, Sr. course was named the National Golf Course of the year in 2019 by the National Golf Course Owners’ Association.

The Great Lakes Championship at The Highlands will offer a $250,000 purse and a $37,500 winner’s check.

Michigan has become quite the hotbed of women’s professional golf, with LPGA tournaments in Grand Rapids (The Meijer LPGA Classic) and Midland (The Dow Championship), and Epson Tour events in Battle Creek (the Firekeepers Championship) and Harris (Island Resort Championship).

“We’re excited to announce the addition of a new event in Michigan next year. The Petoskey Area is well known as a tremendous golf market, and I know our athletes will be excited to visit the community and take on the challenges that The Heather at The Highlands will offer,” said Jody Brothers, the Epson Tour’s Chief Business and Operating Officer.

Brothers is not wrong; there are ten top shelf courses at Boyne alone. Dozens of others dot the landscape from nearby Charlevoix to Gaylord.

The Epson Tour is the LPGA’s equivalent of baseball’s Triple A farm teams (or the PGA TOUR’s Korn-Ferry Tour. Now in its 44th year (under various sponsor names), the Epson Tour has twenty events with $5 million in prize money in 2024. Over the years, some 600 grads and alumnae have moved on to the LPGA Tour. Former Epson Tour players have won 480 LPGA Titles

“We are excited and honored to host the Epson Tour’s Great Lakes Championship at The Highlands,” said Mike Chumbler, president and general manager of The Highlands.  “Hosting this prominent event underscores our commitment to golf and further highlights northern Michigan as a premier destination for exceptional golf. The beauty of northern Michigan, coupled with the high level of competition the Epson Tour offers, will make this a memorable event for players and spectators alike.”
