BP Using Golf Balls To Try To Plug Leak

The New York Times reports that golf balls are among the materials BP is trying to plug the leak from Deepwater Explorer.

  1. I wonder if they are using new ProV1s or went and got bags of used TopFlites? 

    The question I have is that at a mile does a golf ball still sink?  When you hit one into the lake, even close to the surface, they will float around a little when you are trying to pick it out.

    I wondered why they are not pumping pebbles mixed with the heavy oil.  Even better would be something like a golf ball, but heavier, and would expand over time after it is exposed to water in the site.
