Bryson Goes “Tin Cup” Playing Only A 7 Iron

In an homage to Roy McAvoy in Tin Cup, Bryson DeChambeau accepted the challenge to play eighteen holes with just a seven iron.

For those not familiar with the reference, there’s a segment in Tin Cup in which McAvoy (Kevin Costner) breaks every club in his bag but his seven iron in a fit of rage over his play on the front nine at a US Open qualifier.  He then proceeds to qualify for the US Open by playing the back nine with just the seven iron.

When I was coaching golf, I occasionally would send players out for a practice round with just three clubs. And one of them could not be the driver. Strangely, the players would sometimes play better with three clubs than they did with a full bag.
