CC of Lansing Golf Professional John Lindert Running for PGA of America Leadership Post

LANSING – John Lindert, the director of golf at Country Club of Lansing currently serving on the PGA of America Board of Directors, is one of four national candidates campaigning to be the next Secretary of the PGA of America.

Lindert, 60, met with PGA delegates at the recent Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., and is engaged in a process of attending four regional meetings with PGA leaders who will vote in the process.

If elected in November at the PGA Annual Meeting in Palm Springs, Calif., he will start an eight-year volunteer commitment in which he serves two years as secretary, two years as vice-president, two years as president and two years as honorary president.

“I am proud of John for stepping up and taking his desire to serve to the national level,” Kevin Helm, executive director of the Michigan Section, said. “We have been fortunate to have John involved for years in leadership positions at the Chapter and Section level and I know if elected Secretary he will do an outstanding job serving and representing the PGA of America.”

Lindert is one of four national candidates. The others are Tom Wildenhaus of the South Florida Section of the PGA, Rick Murphy of the Carolinas Section and Jim Dorman of the Gulf States Section.

“I view the wealth of talent among PGA of American members from across the country and it is truly humbling to be one of four running for national office,” Lindert said. “It’s not something I charted a course for, but it has been presented as a great opportunity with great responsibility. I consider being part of this will help me be better at what I do for my family and my club, and it will give me the opportunity to help my fellow PGA members on an individual level.”

Lindert was approached by fellow directors last year at the annual meeting in Austin, Texas, about running for the national office. He said he researched it, discussed it with leadership at the Country Club of Lansing and with his family.

“I have the support of the club, my family and the region I represent as a director,” he said.

Lindert, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., has served Country Club of Lansing since 2002 and worked as a PGA professional in Michigan since 1993. He was previously the head golf professional at Spring Lake Country Club. He is married, and he and his wife, Wendy, have two children; Brooke, 31, and J.D., 30.
