Chevron World Challenge Is Tiger’s Last Shot This Year

Tiger gets one more chance at a victory this week at his own Chevron World Challenge. The event, with a $5 million purse and a limited field benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation. If ever there was a home field advantage in golf, this is it.

It’s going to be tough going, however. The field of eighteen has some of the best players in the world: Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Nick Watney, Paul Casey, Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Matt Kutchar, Dustin Johnson, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Hunter Mahan, Zach Johnson, Anthony Kim, Bubba Watson, Sean O’Hair, Camillo Villegas and Stewart Cink. Every one is ranked inside the Top 50.

The good news for Tiger is that he can’t finish any worse than eighteenth. If he wins (and he’s won four times), and Lee Westwood finishes outside the Top 2 at the tournament he’s playing in South Africa, then Tiger regains the number 1 position.

  1. We will see if the whole new and “improved” Tiger will be better on the golf course.  He had a good final round in Australia a few weeks ago, but can he continue that good play?  It will be fun to see!!
