Christmas Music From Scotland

I love Scottish Christmas music. As I have written a number of times on this blog, I was in love with Scotland before I was in love with golf. There was a Scottish couple in our Presbyterian church in Maryland, and I was fascinated with the kilt Mr. Watt wore to church and the stories Mrs. Watt told of life in their home. I devoured the works of Robert Louis Stevenson. I spend hours reading about the Loch Ness Monster, castles, kilted swashbucklers and the Black Watch.

Being Presbyterian, we had our share of Scottish carols. I liked those best. My father played violin/fiddle; my mother plays piano; we owned a dulcimer; I play guitar. The sound of those instruments were part of my childhood. Thus, I can’t help myself. I love fiddles, dulcumer, guitar and pipes. Haunting and beautiful.

One of the years, I’m going to finally make it to Scotland, as much to just take in the atmosphere as to play golf.

There’s about an hour’s worth of Christmas music from Scotland on this playlist.
