City Council Reconsiders; Detroit Golf Courses Will Open

A week after a failed vote to hire a new management company for three municipal courses, the Detroit City Council changed its mind. On a 5-4 vote, council agreed to a two year agreement with Signet Golf Associates. The North Carolina company will be paid $90,000 a year to operate the courses.

Signet replaces Vargo Golf, a company based in Oakland Township.

The long term future for the courses seems to involve seeking a fifteen year deal in 2020.

The courses granted a stay of execution are Chandler Park, Rackham and Rouge Park courses. The fourth course, Palmer Park, was not involved. Palmer Park — which ranks up there with the worst courses I have played — is slated to become a driving range.
