A field of 153 golfers includes 102 who are age 55-and-over competing for the  GAM Senior Match Play Championship title, and 51 who are age 65-plus competing for the Super Senior title.

Flint Golf Club, which has hosted many Golf Association of Michigan tournaments over the years including the 2001 Michigan Amateur Championship, is familiar to most of the players in the field.

The club dates to 1910 as a social club, and the course was opened in 1919. Park, a two-time British Open champion turned highly regarded designer, fashioned a stunning parkland golf course that has stayed true to its roots over the years. It can play as long as 6,671 yards with a 72.1 rating and a 126 slope. Somewhat unique to the design are five par-3 and five par 5 holes. Golf legend Sam Snead set the course record in June 1963 shooting a 61.

The field of the top senior golfers in Michigan will play 18 holes of stroke play Tuesday to determine the low 32 seniors and low 16 seniors. Those players start match play on Wednesday and play through the bracket until Friday morning when championship matches are scheduled.

Defending champion Steve Maddalena of Jackson heads the list of all of the defending champions in the nine-year history returning to the field this year. They include Mitch Wilson of Portage (2015), Randy Lewis of Alma (2014), Mike Raymond of Jackson (2013), Ray Emsley of Davisburg (2012), Greg Reynolds of Grand Blanc (2011) and two-time champion Bill Zylstra (2009, 2010).

Flint Golf Club’s staff is headed by PGA Professional and General Manager Scott Brotebeck and Superintendent Jim Moore. Visit www.flintgolfclub.com for more information.
