MUSKEGON – Muskegon Country Club will host over 150 of the top senior male golfers in Michigan in the 31st GAM Senior Championship presented by the West Michigan Golf Show Monday and Tuesday.

The Donald Ross-designed Muskegon CC course has hosted several GAM championships and USGA qualifiers, including the Michigan Amateur Championships of 2005 and 2013.

The club was founded in 1908 on 130 acres of virgin dune overlooking Lake Michigan and features rolling terrain and fescue lined fairways. It can play up to 6,697 yards from the back tees, and in Ross fashion features challenging green settings.

The course was originally laid out by noted designer Thomas Bendelow, but in 1920 was redesigned by Ross. In recent years the club has concentrated on removing some trees and returning the design to the original setting Ross intended.

Stephany Fleet is the head golf professional at MCC, and Jeff Hopkins is the superintendent. Learn more at muskegoncc.com.

The 150-plus golfers in the field over age 55 will play 36 holes of stroke play to determine a champion. A Super Senior division for men over age 65 will also compete from different tee markers.

Defending champion Tom Rex Jr. of Charlevoix is one of four former champions in the field. The others include 2015 champion Mike Tungate of East Lansing, four-time champion Bill Zylstra of Dearborn Heights (2013, 2011, 2010, 2008), and 2007 champion Mike Fedewa of Canton.

Two more former champions, two-time winner John Lindholm of Grand Blanc and Roger Kuhl of Jackson, are competing in the super senior division.
