Concord Hills is one of my favorite courses to play in the fall. As hilly as the name suggests, it offers plenty of wooded terrain, and wonderful vistas. It is also quite friendly for the bogey golfer. If you can keep the ball in the fairway, you can score well.

The course is a William Newcomb design dating to 1975. It measures 6,422 from the back tees and plays to a par 72. The course rating is 71.5 and has a slope of 125.

The first few holes of each of Concord Hills’ nines are relatively flat, and rather innocuous. As the course wanders further from the clubhouse, however, the namesake hills come into play. Changes in elevation become the primary challenge, and golfers need to make their club selections carefully.

Concord Hills is walkable (I have done so each time I played), but with the hills it can be challenging.

On the several occasions I’ve visited, course conditions have been satisfactory. The fairways were grown in, if not always entirely grass. The greens and tee boxes were always in good shape. Some of the more shady areas had issues, but this is expected on forested Michigan courses. With closely placed trees, lots of areas don’t get the sun they need to become the green carpets that players love. Still, for the price, the conditions are more than adequate.

Service at the course is friendly and welcoming. Although I go there only once a year or so, I always feel as though I’m part of the club. The pro shop is modest, but there’s a snack area with a full bar menu. I’ve had lunch there a couple of times and wasn’t disappointed.

In all, I recommend this course if you’re hunting for a place to play in the Jackson, MI area. It’s just ten minutes or so off I94, and about ten minutes west of Jackson.
