Country Club of Jackson Hosting Senior Tournament of Champions September 27

JACKSON – The Country Club of Jackson, a classic design with a rich tradition of hosting Golf Association of Michigan championships, will welcome this year’s winners when it hosts the 11th Senior Tournament of Champions Monday September 27, 2021

It marks the final senior GAM tournament of the year and features a field of men and women who have won their GAM member-club championship or a GAM Senior Championship this year. They will compete to decide a male and female champion over 18 holes of stroke play. The senior men are over age 55 and the senior women over age 50.

Country Club of Jackson, which has a membership that dates to 1898 and was officially founded in 1926, features an original 18 holes designed by Arthur Hamm, who worked as a field supervisor of legend Donald Ross. It also has nine additional holes designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1992.

The rich tournament tradition of the club includes hosting the seven Michigan Amateur championships with the most recent one in 2002. Michigan Golf Hall of Fame legends Chuck Kocsis and Glenn Johnson were state champions at CC of Jackson. Dave Hill, the late PGA Tour standout from Jackson, caddied there as a youngster and later was a member. He set a course record of 12-under 60 in 1974.

Michigan Golf Hall of Fame member Ron Beurmann is the head golf professional, and the superintendent is James Simmons. More information on CC of Jackson can be found at countryclubofjackson.com.

Last year Rick Herpich of Orchard Lake and Terry Delcamp of Grand Blanc won the senior men’s and women’s titles at Oakland University’s Katke-Cousins golf course. It was a first Tournament of Champions win for Herpich and second for Delcamp.

Delcamp is returning to defend, but Herpich is not in the field. He is playing in the Society of Seniors Super Senior Championship in Ohio this week.
