Current Best Players Not To Win A Major

Now that we know who has won this year’s Majors, it’s time to wonder about those who haven’t won. The Times Online has a list of the top ten, with commentary. Their picks, from ten to one: K.J. Choi, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Chris DiMarco, Luke Donald, Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia and Colin Montgomerie.

Colin won’t get off that list. And—as much as I like him—I think its unlikely that Chris DiMarco will either.

A more interesting question might be to try to predict the next first-time winner. For that list, I’d have—in no particular order—Allenby, Appleby, Choi, Scott, Donald, Charles Howell, Trevor Immelman, Hunter Mahan, Ken Duke and Anthony Kim. I really believe that a couple of these under 30 guys are poised for a breakthrough.

I can see Howell winning at Augusta, in his hometown. I honestly don’t think that Garcia will ever win—unless its by accident. He’s a head case.

  1. My favourite golf story…favourite story…period!

1998…Wayne was at the top of his game that year.

The Canadian Tour Order of Merit was in town. Ken Duke, Ian Leggitt and another guy from Tour. It was my turn in my 4some to sit out to make room for a guest player. I am under the deck having a coffee when I see 3 Canadian Tour jackets go to the first tee. They were supposed to meet our club mgr for a game. Lucky for me, he was late. I asked if I could join them, they were friendly and said sure. I chipped in for birdie on 1st hole and my buddies saw me hit first on #2. Ken was 68 that day with bogeys on #9 and 18. All par 5s in 2. They talked about what groove they hit the ball with. ??? Short game was amazing. The ball made different sounds on the tbox. I was amazed at how friendly and comfortable they made me feel. They had questions about my area and course. We had Canadian beers after. They wanted to go fishing. I showed them some good eateries in town.

Been big, big Ken Duke fan since. Poor Ian has had it hard lately.

I played 1 below handicap, so I was very happy.

    Best sports story I got.
