David Duval Qualifies For US Open; Daly and Love Don’t

David Duval shot a 66-69 at the Brookside and Lakes Courses in Columbus, Ohio to qualify for the 2009 US Open. He was in Columbus after finishing 58th in the nearby Memorial the previous weekend.

Meanwhile, John Daly, Davis Love and Jose Maria Olazabal are among the name players who failed in their efforts to tee it up Thursday at Bethpage Black.

Daly and Olazabal don’t surprise me, but I would not have expected Love to falter. He’s still a competitive player, having made 16 of 23 cuts last year, with a win.

I’ve got this fantasy that Duval, who hasn’t won since the 2001 British Open, suddenly finds his game and plays with Tiger in the last group on Sunday.
