Diamond Resorts Invitational Winners and History
Making its debut in 2017 as part of the PGA TOUR Challenge season, the The Diamond Resorts Invitational is a 54 hole celebrity event. Players from PGA TOUR Champions and the LPGA are paired with clebrities, although the professionals and celebrities are scored separately on the Stableford system.
The event is played at Tranquilo Golf Club at Four Seasons in Orlando, Florida. The 2017 purse is $750,000.
The Diamond Resorts Invitational began life in 2012 with Diamond Resorts International’s volunteer participation program that benefited the Florida Hospital for Children. In 2013, PGA TOUR player Brian Gay lent his name to the Diamond Resorts golf invitational to raise money for the hospital. The Brian Gay Invitational featured a best ball team competition where foursomes were paired with a celebrity. The winning team featured retired PGA Tour player, Carl Paulson, Robert Foster, Mike Merchent and his 12-year-old son, Clay.
The charity event continued to grow, and in 2016, the Diamond Resorts Invitational benefiting Florida Hospital for Children was broadcast on Golf Channel. In 2017, the event has become part of the Champions Tour Challenge Season and features both Champions Tour and LPGA players.
