Dow May Sponsor Michigan PGA Tour Event

With news of the probable return of the PGA Tour to Michigan, the identity of the corporate sponsor now becomes a question. One mid-Michigan television station claims it’ll be Dow, the Midland, Michigan – based chemical giant.

Speculation about Dow Chemical and a PGA Tour event began earlier this summer when Golfweek Magazine’s Web site mentioned the Midland-based company showed interest in sponsoring a tournament next year.

When we asked a Dow Chemical spokesperson if the company was a possible sponsor of a PGA Tour event at the Detroit Golf Club next year, the answer was the company does not comment on rumor or speculation.

Dow Chemical became the official Chemistry Company of the PGA Tour in 2008 and now sponsors five PGA Tour players, including Corey Pavin. A spokesperson for the PGA Tour would not comment on whether there have been talks on Dow Chemical sponsoring a tournament, but he does confirm the tour for next year is 90 percent set with a final tour schedule to be released sometime in November.
