How the Farmers Insurance Open was won by Scott Stallings in 2014

  • Stallings shot a final-round 68 to cling to a one-shot victory over five other players, including Jason Day, Pat Perez, Marc Leishman, Graham DeLaet and K.J. Choi.

  • Stallings won his third career PGA TOUR event at the age of 28 years, 10 months and one day in his 88th career start. Three of Stallings 10 top-10 finishes have been victories.

    Saturday is University Day

  • Farmers Insurance is once again rewarding school spirit during the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open, encouraging fans and TOUR players to wear their university colors in support of Farmers ԕniversity of FarmersԠadvertising campaign.

  • Fans and TOUR players are encouraged to wear their own university colors to support the program and raise money for charity. For ԥxtra creditԠFarmers will make donations to college golf programs from players posting the best third-round 18-hole scores.

  • The player with the low third-round score will receive $10,000 for his alma materӳ golf team and an additional donation will be made for second place. Every player who wears his school colors on Saturday will have $500 donated in his name to his collegeӳ golf program.
    University Day has raised more than $180,000 for college golf since it began in 2011, thanks to participation from top players like Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Billy Horschel, Hunter Mahan, Jordan Spieth and Keegan Bradley.

  • 14 of the 30 players that made it to the 2014 TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola will play in the Farmers Insurance Open: Billy Horschel, Chris Kirk, Jimmy Walker, Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth, Bill Haas, Cameron Tringale, Gary Woodland, John Senden, Morgan Hoffmann, Hideki Matsuyama and Dustin Johnson.

  • 20 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings: Justin Rose, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Jimmy Walker, Billy Horschel, Phil Mickelson, Hideki Matsuyama, Chris Kirk, Dustin Johnson, Bill Haas, Jamie Donaldson, Ian Poulter, Keegan Bradley, Brooks Koepka, Gary Woodland, Luke Donald, Shane Lowry, Marc Leishman and Tiger Woods.

  • Jimmy Walker the current FedExCup leader, who won the Sony Open in Hawaii three weeks ago, missed the cut at last year’s Farmers Insurance Open. Walker has two top 10s in seven starts at Torrey Pines.

  • Three of the last four FedExCup champions are in the Farmers Insurance Open field (Billy Horschel/2014, Brandt Snedeker/2012 and Bill Haas/2011).

  • Three-time Farmers Insurance Open winner and San Diego native Phil Mickelson will make his 26th start in the event. He has 10 top 10s, but had to WD after round two last year due to injury.

  • Brandt Snedeker will make his ninth career start in the Farmers Insurance Open. He has five top 10s in his previous eight starts. Snedeker’s finishes: 2007/3, 2008/MC, 2009/T42, 2010/T2, 2011/T9, 2012/won, 2013/T2, 2014/MC.

  • Tiger Woods looks to inch closer to the PGA TOUR’s all-time victory total. He is currently second with 79 TOUR wins, just three behind Sam Snead’s 82. Woods has seven wins, 12 top 10s and has made all 14 cuts in the Farmers Insurance Open. Woods missed the 54-hole cut last year at Torrey Pines and finished T80.

  • Dustin Johnson will make his first start on the PGA TOUR since missing the cut at the 2014 RBC Canadian Open in July.

    Tournament Records

  • The Farmers Insurance Open has not produced a first-time TOUR winner since Jay Don Blake in 1991.

  • There has never been a rookie winner at the Farmers Insurance Open. Gene Littler won the event as an amateur in 1954.

  • The only two international players to win the Farmers Insurance Open are Gary Player (1963) and Jose Maria Olazabal (2002).

    Charity

  • As the host organization of the Farmers Insurance Open, a PGA TOUR Tournament and Southern California’s see-and-be-seen event, The Century Club of San Diego is able to provide partnership fundraising programs and experiences for charities, local military families, community organizations and schools.

  • Since its inception, The Century Club of San Diego has generated more than $28 million for the San Diego community, with $2.8 million generated in 2014 alone.

    The Farmers Insurance Open and the FedExCup

  • The Farmers Insurance Open enters the second season featuring a wraparound schedule that bridges two years with 47 events.

  • The 2014-15 PGA TOUR Season included seven events during the fall of 2014, all of which awarded FedExCup points.

  • After a seven-week break, the season resumed at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

  • The FedExCup Playoffs once again features four events and concludes in September 2015 with the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola and the crowning of the FedExCup champion.

  • Every week is significant in the race for the FedExCup – four of the six winners from the fall calendar of 2013 (Jimmy Walker, Chris Kirk, Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson) qualified for the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola and two others (Harris English, Ryan Moore) finished inside the top 40.
