Fatheadz Eyewear Sunglasses
Grade: A
Teacher’s Comments: Great fit for a larger head. Very strong polarization.

If you have a large head, you know that one size does NOT fit all. You know the disappointment of finding a nice hat, only to find that the “Large” doesn’t come close (or worse, the “adjustable” ones that are four snaps short). You despair of finding a pair of glasses large enough to ensure that they don’t make your head look even bigger than it is.

Fatheadz makes a line of sunglasses designed to alleviate this psychic pain. The company offers five lines of eyewear, with more than 100 products. They’ve also got glasses for people who require standard and intermediate sizes. The company recently sent me one of their Jaxon glasses in black, with blue lenses for review.

The Fatheadz Jaxon fits this GolfBlogger’s large noggin perfectly, looking like a normal pair of glasses rather than a pair of children’s toys. Helpfully, the Fatheadz website provides a very precise sizing guide. To find a pair that would fit, I simply looked for one that approximated the size of my reading glasses.

The sunglasses frames are matte finish, very lightweight, and yet feel as though they will be quite durable over time.

Where the Fatheadz sunglasses stand out, however, is in the lenses. They are without a doubt the most strongly polarized sunglasses I have worn to date. In daylight, the clarity is outstanding. That helps both for driving — and for golf.

To test of the strength of the polarization on the Fatheadz Jaxon sunglasses I put them on while looking at a computer screen. With a slight tilt of the head, the screen disappears entirely. On glasses with polarization that is less strong, the screen just dims to varying degrees.

Fatheadz’ lenses have a lot of technology built in. They are Injection Polarized Polycarbonite, scratch resistant and offer 100% UV protection. Fatheadz has added hydrophobic and oleophobic coatings to resist water and oil, an anti-reflective coating to the back side and a flash mirror coating to the front side.

The Jaxon sunglasses are part of Fatheadz’s All-American line, which bear a “Made In America” mark.

Aligning with the line’s “Made in America” undertaking, Fatheadz will donate a portion of every sunglass purchase to Folds of Honor, which provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.

“When Fatheadz launched in 2004, our operations strategy included economical manufacturing options to maintain a competitive advantage in the marketplace,” said CEO and founder Rico Elmore. “With Fatheadz now accentuated as the leading provider in oversized eyewear, we want the All-American V2.0 line to serve as a catalyst in the American manufacturing renaissance while simultaneously providing substantial support to our veterans.”
