Feeding Your Golf Addiction In The Winter Part 16: Attend A Golf Show

This is the sixteenth in a series on things to do to feed your golf addiction in the off season:

The winter golf doldrums in Michigan are broken by the trade winds of the Michigan golf shows, and I make it a point to attend at least one every year.

The golf show season this year kicks off with the West Michigan Golf Show at De Vos Place in Grand Rapids on February 12 – 14. The Novi Golf Show is March 5 – 7 at the Rock Financial Showplace. Meanwhile, the Gibralter Trade Center in Taylor has a show March 19 – 20. There’s also usually one in Lansing, although that has yet to be announced.

The West Michigan and Novi shows are large affairs, covering many thousands of square feet, and including hundreds of vendors.  Those at the Novi show range from retailers, to courses offering deals, to regional travel associations. A few golf related internet startups had exhibits. And there also were a smattering of unrelated booths: jerky and sausage shops, perfume, chiropractors, Skoal snuff, and home improvement. Rock Bottom Golf and Maple Hill Golf, two discount retailers, usually anchor the show.

The Novi show also has dozens of hitting mats, and there usually are pros there to give five minute lessons. All in all, it’s a good time.

Although Michigan is a golf-mad state, I think its likely that there are similar winter shows in your area. They’re a great way to feed the golf addiction.
