The National Library of Scotland has some rare film footage of Ted Ray playing a match at Cruden Bay.

Ted Ray (1877 – 1943) won The Open Championship in 1912 and the U.S. Open in 1920. He was known for what today would be described as a power game.

In 1913, Ray was involved in the US Open Playoff with Francis Ouimet and Harry Vardon. Ray and Vardon were on a exhibition match tour of the United States that culminated in the US Open. That US Open, of course, was won by Ouimet.

Ray’s US Open victory came in 1920 at Inverness in Toledo, Ohio. Forty three at the time, Ray would remain the oldest US Open Champion until Raymond Floyd’s 1986 victory.
