Final Field For Ally Challenge

The final field for this week’s Ally Challenge in Grand Blanc, Michigan looks good. Eight of the top ten players in the Schwab Cup rankings, including Steve Stricker, Padraig Harrington, Bernhard Langer and Jerry Kelly will tee it up.

Other legends include: Ernie Els, David Duval, Jim Furyk, Chris DiMarco, Rocco Mediate, Mark O’Meara and Mike Weir.

I’d love to go see them, but unfortunately for me, this is the worst week of the year: my students return to the classroom the day after the tournament ends. I’ll be spending my time getting classes set.

All four previous champions of The Ally Challenge will be competing in this year’s field, Paul Broadhurst (2018), Jerry Kelly (2019), Jim Furyk (2020), and Joe Durant (2021). Past winners of the Buick Open will also be well represented this year in Grand Blanc. Five members of that esteemed fraternity will be competing at Warwick Hills, including Woody Austin, Furyk, Billy Mayfair, Rocco Mediate, and Tom Pernice, Jr.

Warwick Hills is a great course to see a tournament with some of the legendary names in golf; I’ve had a lot of fun there in the past.

Ally is a Michigan based digital financial services corporation. McLaren is a hospital system in Michigan and Ohio. As with all PGA TOUR and Champions Tour events, the entire spectacle is for the benefit of local charities. In this case, the primary beneficiary is United Way of Genesee County (MI). Since 2018, the Ally Challenge has donated more than $4.5 million to local charities.
