Fire At The Mines GC In Grand Rapids

Just days after fire destroyed the clubhouse at Lakewood Shores, The Mines Golf Club in Grand Rapids also had to call the local fire department.

Wood TV says that an electrical fire had started in the attic of the Mines clubhouse, but that it was contained and extinguished.

There’s no indication of the extent of the damage from Friday’s fire, but the course is open today (Saturday).

Other clubhouse fires in Michigan in recent years include the well-known Oakland Hills Clubhouse fire, a fire at Shanty Creek in 2009, a 2023 fire at Hickory Creek, a 2018 fire that destroyed Western’s clubhouse and a 2013 fire that destroyed Cheesebrough’s rake and flag stick factory.

Washtenaw Golf Club suffered fires in 1951, 1952 and 1987. The 1987 fire completely destroyed the clubhouse.

A quick scan of Google news shows that golf course clubhouse fires are more common than is comfortable.
