And if you are unaware of the good works of The First Tee Greater Detroit, here are some highlights:
- First Tee is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers kids through a lifetime of new challenges.
- By integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, we create active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do.
- We see golf as a metaphor for life – a game with unexpected challenges and ups and downs that help build strengths beyond the technical skills to play the game.
- Our goal is to not only teach valuable life skills, but also create equity and opportunity for youth in Metro Detroit to learn the game of golf.
- Founded in 1997, there are more than 150 First Tee chapters across the nation, engaging 17,000 volunteers to mentor and develop 9 million children.
- We offer group golf lessons to kids and teens ages 5-18, regardless of background or previous experience. Chapters provide access to all the equipment needed.
- We never turn any child away from our programs if they can’t afford our fees.
- Our programs do not run on participant fees, they run on the generous support of our community.
- First Tee Greater Detroit programs take place across Metro Detroit, from Belle Isle to Rackham to Chandler Park. We recently expanded our footprint and started working with the Inn at St. John in Plymouth last year.
- In 2024, we had over 400 kids participate in our programs.
- Registration is currently open for our Spring/Summer Programs – https://firstteegreaterdetroit.org/registration/
