First US Junior Amateur Passes Away

Dean Lind, who became the first US Junior Amateur Champion in 1948, defeating Ken Venturi, has died at the age of 80.

That first US Junior Amateur was held at the University of Michigan’s golf course, and Lind parlayed his victory into a University of Michigan scholarship. He helped the Wolverines to a pair of Big Ten golf titles.

More on Lind at the USGA site.
