Fox Creek Golf Course
Livinia, Michigan

Grade: C
Teacher’s Comments: A solid muni

Fox Creek is the newest of three courses owned by the city of Livonia, Michigan. I think Fox Creek is everything a player could want in a muni: reasonable prices, a playable course and conditions that don’t suck.

The front nine at Fox Creek is flat and open. The back nine is mostly flat and mostly tree lined. Thirteen of the eighteen holes have water in play. The course has just twenty bunkers.

From the back tees, Fox Creek comes in at 6,597 yards and plays to a 71.7/126. The middle tees are in at 6,134 and play to a 69.7/118.

There really isn’t a lot of strategy at Fox Creek. For most holes, the play is to hit the ball as straight and as far as you can off the tee, and then follow up with a straight shot into the green.

My favorite hole was the 391 yard par 4 fifteenth. At around 230 from the tee, the hole bends downward and slightly to the right. The fairway ends at around 290 out, requiring an approach shot to carry a creek and marshy area in front of the green.

Conditions on the day I played were adequate. The tee boxes were a bit beat up, and the fairways unevenly cared-for. The greens were in good condition, though.

Weekend prices at Fox Creek are $21 walking and $30 riding.

I thought Fox Creek was a solid municipal golf course. If I lived nearby, I would have no problem calling it my “home course.” While I wouldn’t seek out Fox Creek, it is not a bad choice if you’re in the area.
