Foxes At Washtenaw Golf Club

Foxes in a bunker at Washtenaw Golf Club.

During my round this morning at Washtenaw Golf Club, I spotted a couple of foxes dozing away in a bunker near the seventeenth green.

They were only mildly interested in the fact that I was near their resting place. One raised its head; the other didn’t bother.

The foxes let me take their picture, and then went back to sleep while I putted out and moved on to the eighteenth tee.

Earlier in the round, I spotted this one under the trees on the left side of the second fairway.

A golf course is a good place for foxes. While the course is often full of people, none are interested in harming critters. There are plenty of trees and shrubs to hide under.

And there are plenty of ducks and Canada geese to eat. When I saw these foxes, I couldn’t help but think of the old folk song:

The fox went out on a chilly night,
he prayed to the Moon to give him light,
for he’d many a mile to go that night
before he reached the town-o, town-o, town-o,
he had many a mile to go that night
before he reached the town-o.

He ran till he came to a great big bin
where the ducks and the geese were put therein.
“A couple of you will grease my chin
before I leave this town-o, town-o, town-o,
a couple of you will grease my chin
before I leave this town-o.”

He grabbed the grey goose by the neck,
threw the gray goose behind his back;
he didn’t mind their quack, quack, quack,
and their legs all a-dangling down-o, down-o, down-o,
he didn’t mind their quack, quack, quack,
and their legs all a-dangling down-o.
