GAM Girls Championship At Washtenaw Golf Club

This weekend, Washtenaw Golf Club is hosting the second annual GAM Girls Championship.

The championship format is 36-holes of stroke play over two days. Champions will be crowned in 15-and-under and the overall categories. The two defending champions, Alena Li and Saisha Patil, both of Okemos and both age group Players of the Year in 2024, are in the field. They will be competing against each other for the overall title this year.

This is what growing the game looks like: club owners blocking off prime weekend hours to give juniors the opportunity to compete one of the state’s best classic courses. Kudos to owners Dave Kendall, Nick Ma and Steve Davis for thinking about the future of the game.

Washtenaw also will host the GAM Boy’s Championship July 29 – 30.

The separate GAM Girls Championship and the GAM Boys Championship replace the old GAM Junior Kickoff, which had a mixed field and was contested in the spring. That, however, set up potential conflicts with the Michigan High school athletic schedule, which schedules boy’s golf in the spring, and girl’s golf in the fall. The new GAM schedule holds the championships opposite their high school seasons.

Kudos to the Golf Association of Michigan for giving the kids the greatest opportunity to compete.

Kudos also to the numerous volunteers and staff of the GAM, and the staff at Washtenaw who made this event possible.
