The 2022 Ryder Cup is scheduled to take place at the challenging Whistling Straits course in Haven, Wisconsin from 24 to 26 September, 2021.
The 43rd Ryder Cup was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so it’s been three years since Europe regained the cup with a 17.5 points to 10.5 win on the Albatros Course of Le Golf National in Guyancourt (a suburb southwest of Paris) in France.
Cometh Collin
At the last Ryder Cup in 2018, Collin Morikawa had still not turned professional.
The 24-year-old has certainly made his presence in the game known now though, having become the first player in history to win in two major championship debuts (2020 PGA Championship and 2021 Open Championship) bringing his professional win tally to five in just 25 months since turning pro.
Morikawa’s win at The Open Championship at Royal St. George’s was the 14th title won by an American in the last 18 major championships.
Another factor that points to the strength of the USA challenge at this year’s Ryder Cup is that, although the Spaniard Jon Rahm is the current top ranked player in golf, eight of the top 10 positions are held by Americans.
The momentum is very much with the USA team going into this year’s Ryder Cup. The team at captain Steve Stricker’s disposal looks likely to be formidable and, with the added advantage of the tournament being played on home soil, they are fairly strong favorites to regain the title.
Ryder Cup Betting Odds
According to the latest golf odds from US odds website Vegas-Odds.com, the 2021 Ryder Cup odds with the Bovada Sportsbook at the time of writing shows the USA as the -150 favorites and Europe available to bet at +150, with the Tie option set at +1200.
This means you would need to bet $150 on the USA to win $100 but conversely those betting on Europe a $100 win bet would return a profit of $150.
There’s several other Ryder Cup betting markets currently available including Winning Margin, Top American, Top European, and the straight-forward ‘Lift The Trophy’ odds which eliminates the possibility of the draw.
Team Selection – How it works
Selection for the 2021 USA Ryder Cup team consists of the leading six players on the Ryder Cup points list (based on prize money won in the biggest tournaments), with Stricker selecting the remaining six players with his captain’s picks.
Team USA
As things stand, the players holding those coveted top six positions on the points list are:
- Collin Morikawa
- Dustin Johnson
- Bryson DeChambeau
- Brooks Koepka
- Justin Thomas
- Xander Schauffele
With Jordan Spieth sitting just outside the top six spots and Patrick Reed, Harris English, Patrick Cantlay, Daniel Berger and Tony Finau making up the remainder of the top 12, there are some strong contenders for Stricker’s team.
Among others, there is also Phil Mickelson, who made golf history with his win at this year’s PGA Championship for Stricker to consider.
Team Europe
Selection for the European Ryder Cup team is based on two lists – the top four players from the European Points lists and the top five in the World Points list (who are not already qualified on the European Points list).
In addition, Europe captain Padraig Harrington also has three picks (which he will name after the conclusion of the BMW PGA Championship – the third Rolex Series event of the season – at Wentworth Golf Club during the week of September 13, 2021).
The top four on the European Points list at present is made up of:
- Jon Rahm
- Tommy Fleetwood
- Tyrrell Hatton
- Matthew Fitzpatrick
On the World Points list, the five players currently in pole position are:
- Rory McIlroy
- Viktor Hovland
- Paul Casey
- Lee Westwood
- Shane Lowry
Who will win the 2021 Ryder Cup?
The European team won’t surrender their grip on the Ryder Cup without a fight when they come to Wisconsin.
They will also feel that they might benefit from the Whistling Straits Course at Wisconsin. Often considered one of the toughest golf courses in the world, it was designed to replicate the ancient seaside links golf courses of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
However, this is going to be a USA team featuring players who have got used to winning and consistently contesting the top spots at big tournaments in recent years. It looks as though it’s going to require something exceptional from the European team if they are to retain the Ryder Cup.
There are few events in the sports calendar that provide as much drama as the Ryder Cup, with the momentum in the tournament frequently swinging from one team to the other over the course of any given day.

Since 1927, USA has amassed 25 Ryder Cup wins with Europe lifting the trophy 14 times. The sportsbook’s odds are predicting a 26th win for Team USA.
