Daytona Beach, Fla. – While Donald Ross courses typically are the preserve of private clubs (such as Oakland Hills) the Daytona Beach golf scene is lucky to have two Donald Ross-designed munis; Daytona Beach Golf Club and New Smyrna.

Daytona Beach Golf Club, a 36-hole facility located in the heart of town, is home to the North and South courses. Ross designed the South Course, a layout that once hosted Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and Byron Nelson. The North was routed by club pro Slim Deathridge in 1946.

A little further south, New Smyrna Golf Club boasts another Donald Ross design. New Smyrna is the annual host of the Indian River Open, an event that counts former British Open champion Mark Calcavecchia and golf personality Charlie Rymer among its past winners.

The remaining muni in the Daytona Beach area is Cypress Head Golf Club, an Arthur Hills design. In all, there more than 20 courses to play near the famous Daytona Beach.
