Golf Channel Expands LPGA Coverage

Good news for golf fans: The Golf Channel is expanding its LPGA Coverage. More golf on tv is always a good thing. From the LPGA Press Release:

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida, March 14, 2011 – The LPGA and Golf Channel today unveiled their 2011 television schedule featuring extended coverage of the Kraft Nabisco Championship and at least 45 daily telecasts of North American events, up from 34 in the same number of events in 2010.

The first major championship of the season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, will feature 20 hours of live coverage including six hours per day on Thursday and Friday. Additionally, half hour Golf Central Pre-Game shows will air prior to live play on Saturday and Sunday.

“As our relationship with Golf Channel continues to grow, we are pleased to increase our tournament coverage and showcase the talent and personalities of the LPGA’s global stars,” said Jon Podany, LPGA Chief Marketing Officer. “Our telecasts will continue to feature unique elements and news coverage will emphasize our players outside the ropes.”

Of the 14 North American tournaments airing on Golf Channel this season, 13 will feature live coverage. Seven international events will be shown on same day delay throughout the year. Golf Channel will also air the 12th edition of The Solheim Cup, the most prestigious team event in women’s professional golf, live from Ireland in September. Airtimes will be announced at a later date.

The LPGA and Golf Channel signed a 10-year agreement that began in 2010.
