GolfBlogger In The News: Detroit News November 20, 2024
Your friendly neighborhood GolfBlogger was quoted in an article by Tony Paul in The Detroit News today: Michigan’s Booming Golf Biz Doesn’t Need The Help – But I’ll Gladly Take The Weather
Paul’s article notes 2024’s notably long golf season, extending from decent weather in February to the unseasonably warm weather thus far in November.
According to the article, Michigan is on track for a fifth straight year of record golf play. Rounds are up. Course revenues are up. The Golf Association of Michigan is set to reach 100,000 members. Female golfers now make up 25% of players, and the average age of golfers is down more than a year to 43.5.
I can see it all on the courses when I play. Tee sheets are full. I have noticed more younger players, women and minorities. I’ve also been randomly paired with more beginners than I remember, especially beginners in middle age.
It’s all good.
My part in the piece is as a feller who plays throughout the year in Michigan. As Paul’s article notes, I’ve now played in 117 straight months in Michigan. This past February was one of the most accessible I can remember in terms of weather.
