Canteen Spirits

Canteen Spirits
Grade: A
Teachers’ Comments: Refreshing. Actual Vodka. Not a malt beverage.

With its flavored sodas spiked with real vodka, Canteen Spirits has staked out a relatively unique position in the beer alternative category. Not a malt beverage, it’s a highball in a can.

Vodka content in the 12 ounce Canteen Spirits cans works out to 5% ABV, so it is in line with a beer. Canteen Spirits, however, have zero sugars, zero carbs and just 99 calories.

Canteen Spirits are a refreshing option for the golf course.

Safe Catch Salmon

Safe Catch Salmon
Grade: A
Teacher’s Comments: A tasty, healthy protein alternative

Paleo is in, and if your Dad is trying to eat healthier, Safe Catch salmon is a good choice.

Safe Catch is a premium salmon, mercury tested to a limit 30x lower than the FDA limit. It is hand packed without added oil, water, fillers, preservatives, and such. Finally, the salmon is slow cooked to preserve all Omega 3 oils and nutrients.

The result is a palate pleasing, healthy light meal. Since you can eat the salmon right out of the pack, Safe Catch packs are perfect for stashing in a golf bag (assuming you have a utensil).

Good Walk Coffee

Good Walk Coffee
Grade: A
Teacher’s Comments: Great as a cold brew with a little sweet cream.

if your Dad is addicted to both coffee and golf, the Good Walk Coffee Company has you covered. This Fair Trade certified and organic coffee company was founded by a lifelong golfer who seeks to instill golf’s guiding principles — fair play, honesty, good citizenship and responsibility — into his business.

The Breakfast Ball blend that Good Walk Coffee sent for review was really good. It’s a bit nutty and a little fruity. But most importantly to me, it’s not too bitter. The company’s literature says that it has hints of oak, but I’m not sure what oak tastes like, outside of whisky aged in oak. Maybe it’s the same sort of thing — some depth and character.
