Golf’s Top 20 Players

World Golf Rankings be damned. Tom LaMarre of USA Today has his own list of the top 20 golfers. And Phil Mickelson, not Tiger Woods is on top.

Of course, LaMarre’s list is based on the players performance in the 2005-2006 season. But that’s the way it should be. I think that the official rankings pay way too much attention to past performance. It’s a “what-have-you-done-lately” world.

So Mickelson is first, followed by Tiger Woods, Stuart Appleby, Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen. David Toms, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els, Geoff Ogilvy and Sergio Garcia round out the top ten. You can read the rest of the top 20 by clicking on the link above.

I think its worth looking at because Lamarre does a good job of summarizing each player’s accomplishments this season, as well as strengths and weaknesses.
