Golfweek’s Top 20 You Can Play In Michigan

Golfweek’s Top 20 You Can Play In Michigan list is out, and I’m happy to see that I have played all but one: Lochenheath. I will need to put that on my list for this summer. For what it’s worth, here’s the GolfBlogger List of Top 20 You Can Play In Michigan.

And here’s the Golfweek list:

1. Arcadia Bluffs, Arcadia (No. 43 m)
2. Forest Dunes (The Loop – Red & Black), Roscommon (No. 69 m)
3. Greywalls at Marquette, Marquette (No. 82 m)
4. Forest Dunes (Weiskopf Course), Roscommon (m)
5. Gull Lake View GC & Resort (Stoatin Brae), Augusta (m)*
6. Belvedere, Charlevoix (c)
7. LochenHeath, Williamsburg (m)
8. Eagle Eye, Bath (m)
9. Tullymore, Stanwood (m)
10. University of Michigan GC, Ann Arbor
11. TimberStone, Iron Mountain (m)
12. Pilgrim’s Run, Grand Rapids (m)
13. Treetops (Signature), Gaylord (m)
14. Lakewood Shores Resort (Gailes), Oscoda (m)
15. Orchards, Washington (m)
16. Sweetgrass, Harris (m)
17. Black Lake, Onaway (m)
18. Bay Harbor Golf Club (Links/Quarry), Bay Harbor (m)
19. Angels Crossing, Vicksburg (m)
20. Hidden River Golf & Casting Club, Brutus (m)

It’s a fine list, and I would make just a couple of substitutions: I’d trade The Medalist for Angels Crossing, and The Donald Ross Memorial for Hidden River. It has been some time since I’ve played Hidden River, so I am less certain of that trade than I am of the Medalist – Angels Crossing. I would drop The Gailes from the list and replace it with Treetops Fazio or Boyne’s Heather.

As for the order, I think that is largely a matter of preference. I like the Weiskopf Course at Forest Dunes more than the Loop. Belvedere would be further down on my list, although I haven’t played since the renovations. Black Lake is in my personal top five. Eagle Eye would be below Tullymore, Timberstone and Pilgrim’s Run.

Nonetheless, it is a good list from which to chart out your Michigan golf trip.
