Greenbrier Classic To Offer Free Admission

Greenbrier ClassicThe Greenbrier Classic, which will be held July 4 – 10 at the historic Old White Course, will offer free grounds badges for all spectators. That’s an amazing offer, and fans should register online early; the Greenbrier Classic can accommodate only 32,000 fans a day.

It will be the first event on the PGA TOUR FedExCup series to offer complimentary access to its fans for the entire week.

As a West Virginia University alum, I love this idea. The Greenbrier is a legendary resort, dating to 1858 (although people had been visiting the springs since the late 1700s). Sam Snead was the professional there for many years. Spending some time there has always been on my bucket list.

In lieu of payment, fans are asked to register online for their tickets and then donate a non-perishable food item at the event. All food will be donated to area food pantries, and the tickets can be picked up at will call.

“People are hurting, and we wanted to do something to help,” said Jim Justice, Owner and CEO, The Greenbrier. “West Virginians have always been original and come up with novel ideas, and this is our contribution to the game of golf. We’re so excited to be able to be the first to offer an opportunity like this.”

Fans who attend will also have the opportunity to register for a vehicle giveaway presented by My Local Ford Stores and participate in the Hole-in-One Fan Jackpot on the 18th green, as well as other fan experiences. The badges will also provide access to The Greenbrier, including its dining collection, retail collection and the Casino Club.

“The Greenbrier is open to everyone, and if anybody thought they couldn’t come before, they’ll be welcomed with open arms,” said Justice.

The Greenbrier Classic is dedicating this year’s tournament to the young golfers who will be the future of the game. Free admission will provide youth with access to the professionals and expand their dreams of what golf can do for them. The tournament’s ongoing partnership with The First Tee of West Virginia and The First Tee of Roanoke Valley will be expanded, and hands-on instruction and junior fan experiences will be provided throughout the tournament week. Greenbrier Golf Professional Emeritus Lee Trevino will be among the top-notch instructors teaching the fundamentals of the game.

“Although the PGA TOUR has been able to maintain its popularity, the game of golf has seen a decline in recent years,” said Justice. “Golf has taught me so many lessons on and off the course, and I don’t want to see today’s youth miss out on what the game can provide for them.

“We at The Greenbrier Classic are making a commitment to reaching them at a young age and teaching them not only the fundamentals of the game, but also the values that are learned through The First Tee program.”

For spectators wishing to upgrade their Greenbrier Classic experience, Springhouse and Snead Champions Club badges will be available. The new Springhouse badge will provide access to air-conditioned facilities and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages throughout the seven days and a complimentary lunch during tournament play Thursday through Sunday. The Snead Champions Club badge will provide fans with the ultimate PGA TOUR experience. Exclusive access to seating on the first team, premium dining, alcoholic beverages and much more are included with the Snead Champions Club badge.

“We’re thrilled to open up the gates for every fan who wants to attend, but we also want to provide options for those who are looking for more,” said Monte Ortel, Executive Tournament Director, The Greenbrier Classic. “Our various options provide something for every golf fan and every budget.”

Fans who have already purchased Benefactor badges will be automatically upgraded to Springhouse badges or have their money refunded at their choice.

The Greenbrier Classic has been an award-winning event on the PGA TOUR since its inception in 2010, but that’s not enough. The goal is to continue to become the standard of excellence throughout the world of golf and to be a source of pride for West Virginians and golf fans throughout the world.

“We’re less than two months away from the first tee shot, and we couldn’t be more excited,” said Ortel. “The player field is developing, and we can’t wait to celebrate America’s birthday at America’s Resort.”
